Last year I was grounded in Manchester, UK, for 10 days over my plan due to the Volcano in Iceland. Was a very special experience because we are so used to the fact we plan all to the last minute and after the volcano eruption nothing was in our hands anymore. That is a good lesson and for sure we were more cautious going forward. But that was early 2010 and for sure there is nothing more powerful that time to forget the lessons! Today I landed in Santiago, Chile in a connecting flight to Buenos Aires with a very tight schedule. And guess what… another volcano in the south of Chile is sending ashes up in the air and all flights to Buenos Aires are cancelled…. So here I’m at the VIP room of LAN waiting for news on what to do.
So the lesson as appeared again …. We do not control all and we must be flexible with our plans. I remember a very good friend that indicated the most important flight was the one back home so up to now this Chilean volcano has been better than the Iceland volcano for me as this one has not affected as of now my flight back home.
